DON'T WAKE ME UP

I had just grabbed some dinner at a little fast food restaurant close by my work, leaving work late once again due to a big event I was working on. I looked at my watch, and noticed it was almost midnight. I was an event planner, and my boss said I would get a promotion if I made this one work out. I got into my car, which was in the parking stall near the front of the restaurant, and started the ignition. I looked behind me before pulling out, saw that no one was there, and pushed down on the gas pedal. When I got out of the stall, I flipped down my mirror quickly to apply some lip-gloss to my lips; they were feeling a little dry.

Putting the mirror back in place, I looked ahead of me to see two bright white headlights of a car coming toward me. I panicked, not having a way out of the situation. My brain was saying to put the car into reverse, and get out of the way, but my body wasn’t moving. I heard a screech, felt a jolt, and fell into a black, dreamless sleep.

“Please wake up! I heard a voice saying.

“Mate, I don’t think she can here you! Another voice said.

“You called the police right? the first one said.

“Yes, I did 10 minutes ago. They should be here by now

“Come on, please wake up. The first one said soothingly, shaking me slightly.

My vision slowly came back into focus and I saw two dreamy eyes staring back down at me. My hand found it’s way to my forehead, rubbing it trying to get rid of the awful headache that I had.

“! She’s waking up!

“Wh-what happened? I asked trying to pull myself up. I felt a searing pain in my arm and my head and blood trickling down my face. I winced at the pain, letting a small whimper escape; I thought my arm might have been broken.

“Shh, you’re going to be fine. The ambulance is on its way right now.

“O-uch! I whined, suddenly feeling more bursts of pains in my arm. I started to cry, the pain was unbearable. I looked to my left and the front of my car had been smashed. The window was out, and the air bag was lying, deflated on the driver’s seat. I saw flashing lights and heard sirens coming my way.

“, it’ll be okay.

“Wha, How do you know my na- I stopped talking, passing out once again.

Waking up from a nightmare I thought was never going to end, I opened my eyes to a bright white room. I noticed tons of ‘Get Well Soon’ balloons, and many cards scattered around the room. I look down and saw tubes coming in and out of my arm, and a cast on the other arm. I started to panic, why was I here? I heard someone come in through the door, and remembered immediately.

“! Your awake! he said grinning and rushing over to me.

“Oh, yeah. Hi? I said.

“I’m so glad you are awake.

“Uh, yeah. What’s your name again?

“Oh, I’m sorry. I’m .

“.

“I know, he said gently, “I’ve been waiting for you to wake up. I haven’t gone home in days.

“Why would you do that? I said, confused.

“Do what?

“Stay in the hospital with a girl you don’t even know. I looked him in the eye. He grabbed my hand, well the one that wasn’t in a cast, and starting speaking softly.

“You want to know the truth? he grinned.

“Yes, please, I smiled back.

“I couldn’t let a gorgeous girl like you get away. When I pulled you out of your car, you just looked so beautiful, even though you were bashed up. I wanted to properly apologize for everything I did to you.

“Look, I’m sure it was an accident. I’m okay now, aren’t I?

“I guess so. He said, retracting his hand from mine as if he just realized it had been set there for a couple minutes now. We both became silent, and I started examining my cast, trying not to look up.

“You know, when I woke up the first time, I saw your eyes.

“And that has to do with what? he said, chuckling.

“There all I dreamt about. I didn’t know what my brain was thinking about. I didn’t want to wake up. Those eyes were circling around my mind the whole time. I wanted so badly to find out who they belonged to the whole time I was asleep, if I ever woke up. Now that you are here right in front of me, I know now.

He pulled at my hand again, brought it to his lips, and kissed it softly.

“I’m so sorry about everything.

“You know how you can make it up to me?

“Anything you want.

“When I get out of here, take me on a date.

“Why would you want to go out with me after all this? he looked at me confused.

“Because of what your doing right now. I smiled. I took a hold of his hand and laced it through my own. I yawned, and started to drift off again. The painkillers were really working. eyes started to fill my mind again. But this time, I knew who they belonged to, and I knew they would be there when I woke up once more.
